遠在西元   3000 年前，巴比倫人已經將它用於非常廣泛的醫藥用途。在希臘，希臘人推牛至是草藥之首並有「山中的聖品」之稱。 

Hedd Wyn Essentials 牛至油源自有機的野生牛至   (一種草本植物)，由人手在地中海曠野採摘後提煉而成，牛至油中含有   30 種以上的活性化合物可以殺菌，其中以香芹酚   (Carvacrol) 和瑞草香酚功能最強大。將牛至葉及花以低溫及低壓方法蒸餾，再透過質譜分析及氣相色譜方法去計算及分析，確保每支牛至油均含有超過   80% 的香芹酚   (Carvacrol) 成分，純度高且無雜質，是最強力、天然及多用途殺菌劑，且有別予抗生素，不會產生抗藥性。


牛至油不但可以殺死真菌或阻礙其生長，同時亦可以抑制多數細菌的生長，包括葡萄球菌、鏈球菌和大腸桿菌，更殺死一些寄生蟲和濾過性病毒。產品經證實是全無毒性或任何副作用。
